Call for Proposals The 2024 Innovative Translational Medicine Research Project is accepting applications from December 13, 2023 to January 10, 2024 (Wednesday)

  1. Project Description:
To stimulate interdisciplinary and original translational medical research at TMU, we aim to integrate clinical, foundational, epidemiological, big data, and artificial intelligence fields. Utilizing core research facilities, the goal is to propel competitive and distinctive research teams externally, enhancing both academic and clinical research capabilities. This initiative is carried out through the "Taipei Medical University Translational Innovation Research Project."
  1. Project Focus
  1. This project emphasizes the industrial applicability of innovative translational research and development outcomes.
  2. Focus on cancer translation, neuroscience, thoracic medicine, artificial intelligence in medicine and other innovative research fields. Projects involving RNA theranostics, Organoids, Organ-on-chips, or kidney research, recommended after review, will be given priority.
  3. In the field of artificial intelligence in medicine, please include " market analysis and implementation planning (such as application in the medical domain) ". It will be a focal point in the project review..
  1. Research Project Type and Requirements: 2023 Project Report limited to 5 pages; 2024 Project proposal limited to 25 pages
Special Note: Considering the implementation period of the 112-year project, it is categorized as a pilot project and is not included in the calculation of the execution years.
[Continuation case] For those who have executed pilot projects, they need to write a 2023 report (including the achievement status of expected outcomes) and a 2024 proposal.
[New Case] Writing a 2024 proposal.
  1. Integrated project:
  1. Each proposal should contain at least 3 subprojects. The chief PI needs to lead one subproject and be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, research progress and outcome of the integrated project. The project funds are centrally managed, allocated and used by the chief PI.
  2. One PI is limited to one subproject.
  3. Team composition elements: To enhance the academic research capabilities of young researchers, each integrated project with at least one researcher under the age of 45 (inclusive, based on the project application deadline) serving as a sub-project principal investigator will be given additional recognition.
  4. In addition to project content, the proposal must include: (1) Emphasize the value of translational medicine and precise health, (2) Cultivate young researchers, (3) Substantial international cooperation/joint publication, (4) Application of products and derivative innovations, and (5) Use TMU core facilities, platforms and clinical data (data bank)
  1. Individual Project (Artificial intelligence in medicine and others)
  1. Application Eligibility and Funding Categories:
  1. Applicant eligibility: Full-time teacher or full-time assistant researcher (or above) at the university.
  2. Funding items:
  1. Cancer Translation field: Limited to business expenses (experimental materials, equipment usage fees, temporary wages, etc.).
  2. Neuroscience, Thoracic medicine, Artificial intelligence in medicine and other innovative research fields: Personnel fees (full-time, part-time research assistants) and business expenses (experimental materials, equipment usage fees, temporary wages, etc.).
  1. Subsidies: Each integrated project can be allocated up to NT$2.5 million.
  1. Application Method and Application Deadline: involving proposal and oral presentations.
  1. Proposal: The deadline for submission is January 10, 2024 (Wednesday). Please submit the application in the specified format and send the electronic file to the Research and Development Office. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  2. Oral presentations: If the project plan is approved after review, the PIs will be notified to conduct an oral presentation and must submit the oral presentation file (electronic file) before the specified deadline.
  3. Revised project: After approval and recommendation, revised project and budget allocations are prepared.
  4. The content of this project application should adhere to the ethical regulations of the National Science and Technology Council and the academic ethics regulations of Taipei Medical University and its affiliated hospitals.
  1. Project Report and Performance Evaluation
  1. Progress reports: Monitoring research progress irregularly by each center and the Research and Development Office.
  2. Annual evaluation report: Written reports are reviewed and a briefing meeting is held at the end of the year. In a report, the following content should be included: (1) project progress for the current year, preliminary research results, and concrete performance (including qualitative and quantitative results); and (2) the project implementation focuses for the following year and expected results and performance. The report must be edited in PDF and 1 copy of the PDF file must be printed and submitted to the project organizer.
  3. Submission of an overall results report: An overall results report must be submitted after the implementation period according to the regulations and an application for government subsidies is encouraged.
  1. Closure Regulations
General Guidelines:
  1. The chief PI must serve as the first or corresponding author, and the publication should be under the university's name as an Original Full Article.
  2. Please include the grant project name and internal project number in the paper.
Grant Project Name: This work was financially supported by the Higher Education Sprout Project by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Taiwan.
  1. Published research paper results must be submitted as a PDF file for verification to the Research and Development Office.
