I. Project Description:

To stimulate interdisciplinary and original translational medical research at TMU, we aim to integrate clinical, foundational, big data, and artificial intelligence fields. Utilizing core research facilities, the goal is to propel competitive and distinctive research teams externally, enhancing both academic and clinical research capabilities.

II.Project Focus

  1. This project emphasizes the industrial applicability of innovative translational research and development outcomes.

  2. Focus on Translational cancer medicine, Neuroscience, Thoracic medicine, Rare disease research, Transplant immunology, Other innovative fields

III. Research Project Type and Requirements: 2026 Project proposal limited to 25 pages

[New Case] Writing a 2025 proposal, this is a one-year project.

Integrated project only:

  1. Each proposal should contain at least 3 subprojects. The chief PI needs to lead one subproject and be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, research progress and outcome of the integrated project. The project funds are centrally managed, allocated and used by the chief PI.

  2. One PI is limited to one subproject.

  3. Team composition elements: To enhance the academic research capabilities of young researchers, each integrated project with at least one researcher under the age of 45 (inclusive, based on the project application deadline) serving as a sub-project principal investigator will be given additional recognition.

  4. In addition to project content, the proposal must include: (1) Emphasize the value of translational medicine and precise health, (2) Cultivate young researchers, (3) Substantial international cooperation/joint publication, (4) Application of products and derivative innovations, and (5) Use TMU core facilities, platforms and clinical data.

IV. Application Method and Application Deadline: involving proposal and oral presentation.

  1. Proposal: The deadline for submission is 5 pm January 12, 2026 (Monday). Please submit the application in the specified format and send the electronic file to the Research and Development Office. Late submissions will not be accepted.

  2. Oral presentation: If the proposal is approved, the PIs will be notified to conduct an oral presentation and must submit the oral presentation file (electronic file) before the specified deadline.

  3. Revised proposal: After approval, revised proposal and budget allocations should be prepared.

  4. The content of this project application should adhere to the ethical regulations of the National Science and Technology Council and the academic ethics regulations of Taipei Medical University and its affiliated hospitals.

V. Project Report and Performance Evaluation

  1. Progress reports: Monitoring research progress irregularly by each center and the Research and Development Office.

  2. Annual evaluation report: Written reports are reviewed and a briefing meeting is held at the end of the year. In a report, the following content should be included: (1) project progress for the current year, preliminary research results, and concrete performance (including qualitative and quantitative results); and (2) the project implementation focuses for the following year and expected results and performance. The report must be edited in PDF and 1 copy of the PDF file must be printed and submitted to the project organizer.

  3. Submission of an overall results report: An overall results report must be submitted after the implementation period according to the regulations and an application for government subsidies is encouraged.

VI. Closure Regulations: Those who implemented the plan in 2025 should submit their final thesis by December 31, 2026.

General Guidelines:

  1. The chief PI must serve as the first or corresponding author, and the publication should be under the university's name as an Original Full Article.

  2. Please include the grant name and internal project number in the paper.

  1. Published research paper results must be submitted as a PDF file for verification to the Research and Development Office.
  2. Failure to close the project as specified will disqualify the project PIs from submitting further applications for this grant (limited to 2 years).

2-year term: One paper with an Impact Factor (IF) ≥ 10 or in the top 10% of rankings in the field.

Artificial intelligence in medicine: Application for pre-SPARK, SPARK, industry-academic collaboration projects, or ongoing National Science Council integrated projects (must be combined with clinical and biomedical themes).

HIS project: Each sub-project must publish one paper, regardless of Impact factor or ranking.
