📄 Information and Submission Guidelines for ESCI Journals
📘 What is ESCI?
ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index) is a citation index within the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection.
  • Distinction from SCIE: Although ESCI and SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded) have similar names, they are two distinct citation indexes.
    • SCIE requires meeting 28 criteria evaluated by WOS (including high-impact metrics).
    • ESCI only needs to meet 24 quality standard criteria and is considered a candidate journal for high-impact indexes like SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI.
🚀 ESCI's Future Potential and JIF Inclusion
  • Path to Promotion: If an ESCI journal meets the future impact criteria (4 items, such as comparative citation analysis, author citation analysis, etc.), it will have the opportunity to be promoted to the SCIE category.
  • JIF Expansion:
    • Since 2023, the Journal Impact Factor (JIF) has been extended to include all journals listed in AHCI and ESCI.
    • Since June 2024, ESCI journals officially possess a JIF and are included in the existing JIF subject rankings for Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.
  • Ranking Information: ESCI journals now disclose their Category Ranking by JIF and Quartile.
💡 Important Note: Journals experiencing a decline in quality may also be downgraded from SCIE/SSCI/AHCI to become ESCI journals.
🚨 Advisory for Faculty Submissions and Promotion Evaluation
The University encourages faculty and researchers to publish their work in excellent international journals. However, please be aware of the following regulations:
  • Promotion and Funding Eligibility: According to the current regulations of this University, papers published in ESCI journals are not applicable for inclusion in faculty promotion dossiers or for related research grant/award applications.
  • Pre-Submission Check: To ensure that your research output is effectively cited and qualifies for future promotion and award applications, faculty and researchers must log into the InCites JCRJournal Citation Reports system before submission. Please confirm whether the target journal is included in the core collection (SCIE, SSCI, or AHCI) and carefully evaluate your submission choice to avoid affecting future eligibility.
